The Olio is a 501c3 non-profit educational glassblowing facility and social enterprise focused on community, arts, entrepreneurship, and sustainability. We offer programs for all ages, budgets, and interest levels to learn about Furnace Glassblowing, an exciting process and medium for sculpture, functional ware, architectural elements, and much more. We offer Field Trips, Starter Classes, Workshops, Team-Builders, Private Parties, Group Workshops, Apprenticeships and Job Training, Retail Gallery, and a Specialty Giftware Line. As a sustainable glass studio, we recycle and melt waste glass that saves landfill space and creates jobs in our community.


STAFF
Rebeccah Byer is the Founding Executive Director of The Olio. Originally from the Chicago area, Rebeccah started blowing glass in 1993 as a college student at the University of Illinois Champaign-Urbana, and has taught, worked, and lived in many areas and occupations since. Her experience includes education, sales, marketing, food service, administration, non-profits, and film production (www.indestructiblefilm.com). She has lived in Winston-Salem, North Carolina since 2006 and has two young sons Henry and Elliot. She is a co-founder of Mary's Mavens, sits on the PTI Airport Public Art Committee, and is a member of the Kenan Institute Arts Enterprise Lab 2.0 and EMC Arts Community Innovation Lab.


Sarah Band was raised in San Francisco’s Bay Area. She attended San Francisco State University and received her Bachelors in Fine Art in 2011. At The end of 2013 Band had her first solo exhibition at Public Glass in San Francisco entitled “Apocalypse”. Sarah is a nationally recognized artist, and was recently a Studio Scholarship Recipient from The Chrysler Museum of Art.  Currently, Sarah is working as the Creative Director at The Olio and focuses on educating teens and young adults with glass blowing and business skills. She has shown at the Cultural Arts Center in Greensboro and is currently showing work at The Olio's gallery.
